We are pleased to announce that the first public beta of Version 1.1 of the Powerdown energy saving application has been released and may be downloaded from the Downloads section of the website.
This release contains significant improvements over version 1.0, including:
- System wide enforcement of operating system power saving features, via Group Policy or Powerdown policy files, for all Windows operating systems
- Optimisation of operating system power saving features for maximum energy and cost savings
- Automatically detects if user is still using the computer when a shutdown is scheduled; if so, Powerdown automatically postpones the shutdown
- Policy File Editor utility to simplify the creation of Powerdown policy files (not included in beta release)
- Redesigned user interface
- Integrated management via Group Policy allows centralised management and enforcement of power saving policies across the organisation through Active Directory
- Now works on Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008
- Reliability and performance enhancements
The full release of version 1.1 is scheduled for mid-May. Existing customers will be eligible for a free upgrade to version 1.1
We are also excited to announce that, with the release of version 1.1, Powerdown Standard Edition will now be available for free to home users for use on up to 10 computers and that a range of additional licencing options is being introduced.
